The Harmans have been associated with the car industry since 1913. Started by Alan’s grandfather Charlie who was classed as a wheelwright and was one of the first people to own a motor car in Harrietsham Kent. Alan’s father Arthur followed in Charlie’s footsteps and became a master coachbuilder in Maidstone with garages in Ashford and The Isle of Sheppy , Kent.

Alan has, since childhood, been involved in the motor trade, initially working for his father and then he went on to serve an apprenticeship with Stanhays of Ashford. He then joined the Army and served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical engineers. Having served 12 years with the Army he moved to Bath where he worked in Swainswick as a mechanic progressing to workshop foreman.

He then decided to move into Sales and moved back to Kent where he worked for Vauxhall main dealers. He then met his wife Alison who lived in Somerset so Alan relocated and worked for a Vauxhall main dealership in Honiton, Devon as a Sales Manager. To be closer to home Alan then continued in Sales at Fivehead Service Station, a small family run concern.

An opportunity arose for him to progress his career with A & M Car Sales where he stayed for six and a half years. When this business was sold recently Alan took the opportunity to open his own site in Williton. The site is ideal as it already has Williton Auto Services who will prepare his vehicles prior to delivery to the customer.
